Caring for solid wood furniture: a simple yearly routine
By Areeba Parveen, Maison Areeba · Published · Updated

Dust, wipe, nourish. A short routine that keeps teak, walnut and sheesham looking good - and what to avoid.
Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry straight away. Avoid harsh cleaners, which can dull oil and wax finishes.
Use coasters and mats under hot or wet items, and keep pieces out of direct, constant sun and away from radiators or air-conditioning vents. Wood moves slightly with humidity - that is normal.
Once or twice a year, refresh an oiled surface with a thin coat of furniture oil or wax, following the grain. For outdoor teak, a gentle wash and a fresh coat of teak oil each season is usually enough.
